Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education/National School Boards Association for the nations’ best arts education program. December 2007 The School Board of the North Allegheny School District has just been announced to be the Pennsylvania nominee and state representative in the national contest. Our NA program was selected as the most outstanding in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and will now go on to the national competition with the other 49 state winners. North Allegheny will represent the State of Pennsylvania and the national winner will be announced at the National School Boards Association National Conference in Orlando in March.
The announcement commended the District and the School Board for its outstanding support of education in the arts. They indicated that the NA School Board’s commitment to arts education began with their election campaigns, is part of the strategic plan, and is reflected in our capital and instructional budgets. They praised the District for finding ways to involve all elements of the cultural community and the citizenry in providing exemplary arts educational instruction and activities for the students. The announcement indicated that the School Board provides the state with a concrete example of how arts education unites and adds immeasurable benefit to the students and the community. They ended by stating, “We hope their truly extraordinary and exemplary efforts, coupled with tangible results, can receive the recognition they so richly deserve and provide districts around our country with the knowledge that, when they include the arts, The Best Is Yet To Come!”
As we continue to talk about Daniel Pink’s book, “A Whole New Mind,” we will be very proud of the fact that North Allegheny personifies many of the best aspects of balancing left-brain and right-brain activities and that our arts education program is thriving at a national level.
Congratulations to all of NA for making this possible and especially to our School Board for their total support of arts education in every form throughout the District and at every grade level.
