  • 3 BIT Depth
    • Color has three numbers associated with it.
    • Please see these clips 1 |2
    • A color is made up of sets of colors
      • This RED is 234, 7, 7
    • An 8-BIT image has 256 levels (or combinations) of color
    • An RGB image has 3 8-BIT sets of grey with color shown through it.
      • 256 levels of red
      • 256 levels of green
      • 256 levels of blue
      • this provides 16 millon colors
  • 4 Image Size (See It )
    • The Image size window has two parts
      • The top part is the input. It displays the raw material or pixel dimensions
      • The bottom part is the output. This shows how the data will be printed.
        • tip - always leave the scale and constant proportion on
        • tip - when making an image smaller, resample should be set to bicubic sharper
  • 5 Activity - resize - download the sunflower picture (See It)
      • resize the image smaller - 4 steps to follow
        • turn resample off
        • choose a resolution - usually between 150 and 300 dpi
        • turn resample back on
        • type in a width or heigth
      • pixel information will be lost if these steps aren't followed.
      • never do this to size up!
  • 6 Activity - crop - download the Santa Cruz picture EXE | PSD | ZIP (See It)
      • first go through the four steps mentioned above (let's choose a dpi of 240)
      • now use the crop tool to remove the black border
        • choose the area to crop and apply it using one of three ways
          • check mark
          • double click
          • return key
  • 7 Activity - straighten - download North Shore EXE | PSD | ZIP (See It)
      • first go through the four steps mentioned above (let's choose a dpi of 240)
      • now we need to straighten this photo up
      • choose the measure tool (short cut shift-I)
      • click and drag a line accross the angled top
      • choose iamge - rotate canvas - arbitrary
        • notice that there ia an angle in there already
      • choose "O.K."
  • 8 Activity - cropping to a certain size - download Mom family EXE | PSD | ZIP (See It)
      • first go through the four steps mentioned before (let's choose a dpi of 240)
      • choose the crop tool - type in 2 in x 3 in and 240 dpi
      • notice you will always have a correctly proportioned box
  • 9 Activity - increasing an image size - download bee (See It)
      • this will be done a little at a time
      • from the image size box choose a dpi of 240
      • next choose either a width or a heigth of 110%
      • repeat this a few times
