Layers - many uses including editing
  • 10 Activity - working with layers - download layers (See It)
    • press "F" to go to full screen
    • press spacebar and drag to reposition
    • rename background original by double clicking
    • add a new layer
      • the new layer button or
      • from the layer menu
    • rename it to red
    • add a new layer
      • the new layer button or
      • from the layer menu
    • rename it to blue
    • select the red color
    • choose the paint brush
      • change the size by right-clicking or
      • the bracket keys
    • make sure the red layer is selected
    • paint a red line up to down
    • choose blue
  • make sure the blue layer is selected
  • paint a blue line left to right
  • choose the move tool.
  • position the blue over the red
    • pay close attention to the active layer - the highlighted
  • the layer that is seen on top is the one that is above the others in the layer window
    • you can drag them to rearrange them
  • The lock tool can protect layers
    • transparent pixels
    • the painting
    • movement
    • everything
  • The eye turns on and off visibility
  • ALT-click a layer to show just that one
  • The move tool has an auto select layer
    • short cut - control click a layer to activate it
    • right click to get a menu
  • Layers can also be linked to move together
  • Type tool - a new laler is created
    • fonts (arrow keys)
    • size
    • color
  • once it is typed in, render it by hitting enter
  • to reselect, hover over it and select
  • the transform option under edit can be used to resize
  • Type can have effects applied to them.
    • drop shadow, glow, bevel, stroke, etc.
    • another interesting effect is found in the layer menu. It is called a clippy mask.
    • place the image above the text and choose clippy mask from the layers menu.
  • Adjustments layer can be used to edit to look of a picture.
    • Hue / saturation can be used to change the color of a picture.
      • try a HUE of -185
    • move the order of the adjustment layer to see its effect on just the picture or the picture and the text.
    • also try opacity - it can limit the amount of the adjustment
